Best Bayern Munich Kits of All Time

Best Bayern Munich Kits of All Time

Bayern Munich is one of the most successful and iconic football (or “soccer” as we call it) clubs in the world! From red and white to silver and yellow, FC Bayern has sported many different colours in their 124 years of history. From groundbreaking designs to classic styles, there are some kits that stand out for their connection to very special moments and stories. Even though Bayern Munich is famously known for using the same kit supplier since 1974, that has not stopped them from shocking fans with never before seen designs that are now seen as iconic. The Bavarians are commonly recognized for their white, red and blue home kits, however, the club has stopped using blue since 2018 due to their city rivals, 1860 Munich. There is no denying that each kit reflects a certain era for the team, and the best kits pushed the boundaries of soccer style at the time. Let’s take a look at some of the best Bayern Munich kits of all time and what makes them so special!

2014-15 Home Kit

The Bayern Munich home kit from 2014-15 is often celebrated as one of the club’s most iconic jerseys. However, since 2018 when the club was pushed into never putting blue on their home kit again due to their rivals 1860 Munich, this jersey can be seen as somewhat controversial. We cannot deny the iconic striped blue and red design by Adidas is striking, which is why we had to include it in the list! Worn by the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Müller, Arjen Robben, Xabi Alonso, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribéry, this kit is sure to go down in history.

2017-18 Home Kit

The 2017-18 Home Kit is next up on our list and often referred to as a ‘throwback to the 70’s’. Many fans adore this design which is an ode to the 1973-74 European Cup winning strip. Adidas brought a modern take to a classic look, drawing inspiration from the famous Bayern Munich shirts of the 70s through a white collar with vertical white and red stripes. The look would not be complete without the white cuff sleeves, giving it a retro feel. Worn by the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Müller, Arjen Robben, James Rodríguez, Arturo Vidal and Franck Ribéry, this kit is proof that sometimes nostalgia is worth honouring in design!

2024-25 Away Kit

We had to include a modern design from the present day on this list as proof that the creative genius of Bayern Munich’s design team is still going strong! This 2024-25 Away Kit shocked and delighted fans when it was first introduced. Adidas designed this shirt to honour the ‘Bavaria’ statue, which is the patroness of the Bavarian state. It is an iconic symbol of Bavaria and holds significant cultural importance to the region. As a homage to the statue, the crest of the Adidas FC Bayern 2024-2025 away football shirt comes with a unique turquoise rost design. A rust-inspired all-over pattern rounds off the unique look. Worn by our present day heroes: Thomas Müller, Harry Kane, Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry and Joshua Kimmich, this kit is not soon to be forgotten!

2001-02 European Home Kit

Commonly referred to as the greatest Bayern Munich kit of all time, the 2001-02 European Home Kit is a well-loved design! The effortlessness of the shirt is what makes the classic design truly shine. It pays homage to the club’s traditional red and white identity, while also celebrating one of their top shirt sponsors, Opel. Bayern wore this Adidas classic during the 2001 Champions League Final, where they triumphed on penalties. This ended a 25-year wait to return to the pinnacle of European football, giving the kit its iconic status. Worn by the likes of Claudio Pizarro, Roque Santa Cruz, Giovane Élber, Mehmet Scholl, Stefan Effenberg and Ciriaco Sforza, this kit is well deserving of its praise!

1996-98 Away Kit

Finally, the last honorable mention on our list represents an era of triumph and success for Bayern Munich. Crafted with the club’s iconic red and white colour scheme, this kit pays homage to Bayerns enduring legacy on the international stage. Worn by legendary players during the late 1990’s, its classic design featuring a pair of red and blue striped racing down the right shoulder adds a touch of vibrance to the kit. Another stunning feature designed by Adidas can be seen in the collar and cuffs, which have black and blue/red detailing. They also made the bold decision to place the Bayern crest inside a silver shield, which was later revived in a 2000’s home kit. The 1996-98 Away kit was famously worn during the 1996 UEFA Cup Final, where Bayern emerged victorious!
