Your Favourite League Is BACK With The 2016-17 Champions League!

It feels like the games just ended – and they did in May 2016 – BUT, the much loved Champions League is back! Qualifying rounds have already been completed, running from June 28th to August 24th, consisting of 3 round and determining who will be move forward into the group matches!

UEFA Champions League is a continental football club competition that is considered one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world.  In 1992, Champions League replaced the European Champion Clubs’ Cup, along with changing the format to include a group stage and multiple entrants from certain countries.

This year’s competition begins on September 13th with the Group Stage continuing until December 9th.  The Group Stage consists of 6 Matchdays of 2 back-to-back days, featuring 8 games each! The first and second place teams in each group will advance to Knockout Phase and into the Round of 16.  Teams will continue to compete through the Quarterfinals and Semi-Finals, until the Final on June 3rd, 2017.

Defending champions from last year’s competition are Real Madrid, who have claimed the most Cups in the league! A surprising new entrant, Leicester City, who claimed their spot in the 2016-17 Champions League through their win as the 2015-16 English Premier League champions.
