WWE WrestleMania 40 Highlights
In the world of professional wrestling, the chance to compete in WWE WrestleMania stands as the highest possible point attainable in a wrestler’s career. This weekend’s WrestleMania 40th event will go down in history as an electrifying experience filled with triumph, drama, and iconic matches on the grandest stage in the world of WWE. The first night of the 2-day event kicked off with a bang as the stadium erupted with excitement for the action-packed matches between everyone’s favourite WWE superstars. Let’s recap some of the most epic battles, surprising twists, and memorable moments that unfolded at this year's spectacular WrestleMania 40 event:
The Rock & Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins
The main event of Night 1 was an iconic tag team style match between wrestling legends The Rock and Roman Reigns, partnering against up-and-coming talent Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. The winners of this match would determine who would be going head-to-head for the main event of Night 2. It also signified The Rock’s official return to the ring and his first match in a whopping eight years! His epic entrance into the arena is something that viewers won’t forget anytime soon. Fans were on the edge of their seats when The Rock threatened the ref with termination if he dared to count him out, since becoming a member of the WWE owners and TKO board of directors. From that point on, it turned into a Bloodline Rules match and The Rock was blatantly cheating without worry of facing consequences. After a riveting 30 minutes, The Rock pinned Rhodes to win the match, moving onto Night 2 with The Tribal Chief (Reigns) at his side.
Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre (World Heavyweight Championship)
WWE wrestling warrior, Drew McIntyre, stayed true to his Scottish roots for his memorable entrance into the ring against Seth Rollins. McIntyre’s big entrance featured a large band welcoming him with music from his homeland as he made his way past a few dozen men holding up swords. His personality continued to shine throughout the match, with McIntyre cheekily posting a ‘bored at work’ tweet in the middle of it. The entirety of the match consisted of big moves and near-falls, with both men taking kill shots until one of them reigned victorious. The Scottish Warrior hit Rollins with one more Claymore to get the pin and win the World Heavyweight Championship title. In a surprising twist, Damian Priest ran down with the Money in the Bank briefcase, striking McIntyre to begin a new match. Ultimately, Priest claimed victory over Drew McIntyre becoming the second new world champion in one night.
Logan Paul vs. Kevin Owens vs. Randy Orton (U.S. Title)
The United States Championship was on the line when Logan Paul defended the belt against Randy Orton and Kevin Owens in a Triple Threat match. Paul’s big entrance featured him driving up in a big truck with a Prime mascot accompanying him. Orton and Owens took turns working together to beat Paul until realizing only one of them could win, resulting in a hilarious exchange between the two. WWE didn’t disappoint with their opponent selections, picking the perfect wrestlers to go up against Logan Paul. The three WWE superstars put on one of the most entertaining matches in WrestleMania history. Even fans of the opposing wrestlers couldn’t deny the electrifying performance Logan Paul delivered. After taking an RKO, Owens ended up taking a frog splash from Paul to give him the ultimate win.
Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes (Undisputed WWE Universal Championship)
One of the most highly anticipated matches of the event was between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. The clash of these two titans of the ring was the result of Rhodes challenging Reigns for the second year in a row. Despite this match being under Bloodline Rules, they started off with a standard match before turning it into a hard-fought battle. They went head-to-head in the ring, at ringside, and even into the crowd, using weapons and anything they could find that would inflict possible damage. The combination of storytelling and unwavering skill resulted in a showstopping match for the ages. The Tribal Chief was eventually defeated by Rhodes with the help of interference by The Rock and Seth Rollins, ending the 40th annual WrestleMania with a bang.
As Night 2 came to an end, WrestleMania 40 left a lasting impression on WWE fans around the world.
