WWE SummerSlam 2025 Highlights

WWE promised fans the biggest SummerSlam of all time for 2025, and they delivered! For the first time ever the wrestling mega event was split across two nights in New Jersey, and both were packed with high stakes matches, chaotic moments, and more action than we could’ve predicted. Over 113,000 fans attended MetLife Stadium over the weekend, with rapper Cardi B as the official host and Netflix streaming the spectacle live. This year’s show proved why SummerSlam is still one of the most anticipated stages in the WWE universe. Here’s a breakdown of the biggest moments from both nights that are sure to go down in wrestling history!
What is the SummerSlam 2025?

This weekend’s event marked the 38th annual SummerSlam (A.K.A SummerSlam: New Jersey). It was held over two nights (Saturday, August 2nd and Sunday, August 3rd) for the first time in history at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This professional wrestling pay-per-view spectacle was the first time we got to see rapper Cardi B as the hostess, and the first time ever being streamed on Netflix internationally. This was also the third WWE event to be held at MetLife Stadium, after WrestleMania 29 and WrestleMania 35. The SummerSlam also marked the final appearance for wrestling icon John Cena before he retires from professional wrestling at the end of the year.
Night 1 (Saturday, August 2nd)
Roman Reigns & Jey Uso def. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso took on Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed in a tag team opener that was complete chaos from start to finish. It was the first time in a long time that Reigns and Uso were fighting on the same side, and their teamwork was unmatched despite some close calls. Fans are pleased to know that Reigns and Uso have seemed to put their differences aside and are back on the same page – for now!
Women's Tag Team Championship - Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair def. Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez
Despite multiple title changes occurring at this year’s SummerSlam event, one of the major ones took place during the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title match. The Judgment Day, Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez lost the titles to the Queen, Charlotte Flair, and Alexa Bliss. Despite a solid effort from Judgement Day, they were no match for the teamwork seen from Flair and Bliss, who work just as well together as they do individually. Bliss pinned Perez and secured the win for the Queen!
Sami Zayn def. Karrion Kross
Night 1 featured many unexpected twists, but the one result that fans questioned the most was Karrion Kross’ loss to Sami Zayn. Many believed that Kross deserved the victory in the high-stakes match between these two wrestling veterans which put an end to their storyline that began earlier this year. Zayn defeated Kross with a ‘Helluva Kick’ in a short but thrilling match that everyone can’t stop talking about!
WWE Women's Championship - Tiffany Stratton def. Jade Cargill
Out of the entirety of Night 1, Tiffany Stratton shined the brightest. Tiffany Stratton held onto her WWE Women’s Championship by beating Jade Cargill in a match that had fans on the edge of their seats. Cargill held her own throughout the match, nearly beating Stratton on multiple occasions, but Stratton won thanks to a flashy moonsault off the ropes!
Logan Paul & Drew McIntyre def. Randy Orton & Jelly Roll
Yes, you read that correctly! Singer, Jelly Roll, entered the ring on Saturday as a wrestler. He teamed up with Randy Orton to face Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre in an unforgettable match. Logan ended up getting the pin on Jelly Roll and won with a frog splash move, but overall, the match had a fun energy with the musician involved that fans couldn’t get enough of!
World Heavyweight Championship - CM Punk def. Gunther, then Seth Rollins def. CM Punk
In the final match of Night 1, CM Punk won the World Heavyweight Championship by beating Gunther in a super intense match. But in a shocking twist of events, just as Punk was celebrating his thrilling win, Seth Rollins stepped in. Rollins had been putting on an act all weekend, limping around in crutches, and took this opportunity to reveal his deception. He cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase, which gives him the right to challenge for a title at any time and attacked Punk, walking away as the new champion. It was the most shocking twist of Night 1 and one of the biggest takeaways from the entire SummerSlam event!
Night 2 (Sunday, August 3rd)
Women's World Championship - Naomi def. Rhea Ripley vs. IYO SKY
The second night opened with a triple threat match for the Women’s World Championship featuring Naomi vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Iyo Sky. It was arguably one of the best matches of the weekend. Fans were on the edge of their seats right from the start, and there was non-stop action until the very end. Naomi pulled off a roll-up pin on Ripley to keep her Women’s World Championship title. Despite there only being one winner, the three women who performed on Sunday night were all stars!
WWE Tag Team Title Six-Pack TLC Match - The Wyatt Sicks def. The Street Profits, The Motor City Machine Guns, DIY, Fraxiom and Andrade & Rey Fenix
There was a wild six team TLC (tables, ladders and chairs) match for the tag titles, and it was as hectic as it sounds. Wrestlers were flying mid-air, ladders were breaking, and the Wyatt Sicks, Exeter Lumis and Joe Gacy, walked away with their Champions title. Shoutout to Candace LeRae who took a terrifying fall off a ladder, which ended up being the craziest moment of the entire weekend spectacle!
Intercontinental Championship - Dominik Mysterio def. AJ Styles
Dominik Mysterio walked into SummerSlam 2025 with the Intercontinental Championship and walked out with a stunning win over AJ Styles. In a match full of tribute and emotion, Mysterio beat Styles fair and square (sort of), using a Guerrero-inspired trick that had fans buzzing at the end!
United States Championship Stage Cage - Solo Sikoa def. Jacob Fatu
The two-night event was a shot at redemption for Jacob Fatu as he battled his former Bloodline brother Solo Sikoa for the United States Championship. With the expectation that Sikoa would get a lot of interference, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis decided to make their rematch a steel cage match. Even with the cage, Sikoa’s MFTs showed up on more than one occasion in an attempt to help him win the match. In the end, that was exactly what they did. Sikoa was able to escape the cage after Fatu had been hit in the head with the cage door, winning the championship!
Women's Intercontinental Championship - Becky Lynch def. Lyra Valkyria
One of the most brutal matches of the weekend was between Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria. Becky Lynch overcame a grueling no-DQ, no-count out match, beating Lyra Valkyria by pin. But we have to give Valkyria some credit, as she took a brutal beating during the match that had fans in shock. We won’t forget this violent match any time soon!
Undisputed WWE Championship Street Fight - Cody Rhodes def. John Cena
John Cena and Cody Rhodes went head-to-head in a Street Fight for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The match was more intense than we could’ve imagined, and after a long battle, Rhodes pinned Cena to retain his title. One of the most emotional moments of the SummerSlam event took place afterwards when Cena handed Rhodes the championship in a show of respect from one wrestling icon to another. But before the show came to an end, Brock Lesnar made a surprise return and attacked Cena, making fans speculate what this means for him going forward.
Whether you’re a regular viewer of the WWE, or you tune in for the big matches, SummerSlam 2025 is an event that will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time. From the shocking title changes to surprise returns, the first-time ever two-night spectacle won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the upcoming WWE Clash in Paris taking place on August 31, 2025!
