This past Saturday night delivered another jaw-dropping show with fans on the edge of their seats. The stakes were high with each winner from the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches getting a championship shot at WrestleMania. From shocking returns to record-breaking eliminations, here’s a recap of the highlights from the most electrifying event of the year!

Men’s Royal Rumble Match

This year, fans were treated to many shocking returns from legendary wrestlers. CM Punk reunited with the ring, marking his first broadcasted WWE match since participating in the 2014 Royal Rumble. Punk ended up being one of the final two standing, alongside fan-favourite Cody Rhodes. Tension was high during the nerve-wracking match between the strong opponents as they exchanged counters and strikes. Ultimately, Rhodes eliminated Punk after hurling him over the ropes and winning the men’s Royal Rumble match. This exceptional victory also makes Rhodes the third wrestler to win back-to-back Royal Rumble matches, and the first to do so since Cold Steve Austin in 1998.

Women’s Royal Rumble Match

A massive surprise from the night was the long-awaited return of Naomi, former SmackDown Women’s Champion. This was her first appearance since notoriously walking out of WWE in 2022. TNA Knockouts Champion, Jordynne Grace, was yet another shocking return to the ring, who shared a heartfelt embrace with Naomi before their brawl. The crowd erupted into cheer when Jade Cargill stepped out, marking Cargill’s first WWE match since leaving All Elite Wrestling. Cargill contributed to many eliminations of the night, including Becky Lynch and Naomi. The final surprise of the night was the return of Liv Morgan since taking a break from wrestling due to an injury. Morgan made the final five superstars, alongside Bayley, Belair, Cargill, and Stratton. Bayley reigned victorious in the end, winning her first Royal Rumble match and setting the record for the longest stint in women’s Royal Rumble match history!

Fatal 4-Way Match (Undisputed WWE Universal Championship)

WWE Champion, Roman Reigns entered the ring exuding confidence before the battle against his three legendary rivals: Randy Orton, LA Knight, and AJ Styles for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Fatal 4-Way match. At the beginning, Orton and Reigns paired up while Style and Knight fought, battling simultaneously on different sides of the ring. Roman was on the verge of being pinned when he was assisted by Solo Sikoa, who pulled the referee out of the ring to save his fellow ‘Bloodline’ member. In case you didn’t know, The Bloodline is a team led by Roman Reigns and features his real-life cousins, Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa, who repeatedly get Roman out of trouble during matches. Despite almost being eliminated, Roman Reigns won the match in a surprising twist and retained his ‘Undisputed WWE Universal Championship’ title.

Logan Paul vs. Kevin Owens (United States Championship)

The outcome of the highly anticipated match could be perceived as controversial, to say the least. The match between Logan Paul and Kevin Owens started with Paul offering his competitor a handshake, which Owens rejected and proceeded to attack. After a relatively even match, security sent one of Paul’s friends away after he appeared ringside. An acquaintance of Paul, Austin Theory snuck him a pair of brass knuckles, which were later commandeered by Owens. At the last moment during a pin attempt by Owen, the referee spotted the brass knuckles, and he was rightfully disqualified. The match was officially called due to this offence and Logan Paul retained the US Champion title.

The WWE Royal Rumble 2024 is an event that’s not soon to be forgotten! Saturday’s show had everything a fan could want in a wrestling competition. From the return of all-time legends to jaw-dropping victories, these iconic moments are sure to impact the world of wrestling for years to come.
