The Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Is Only A Week Away!

We’ve waited four long years, but Rio 2016 Olympics is right around the corner! The XXXI Olympiad Games are a major, international, multi-sport event that are due to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from August 5th to the 21st.

However, one particular sport, loved my billions, starts 2 days early with the Women’s Olympic Soccer beginning on August 3rd and the Men’s Olympic Soccer on the 4th! Ending on 19th and 20th respectively, the closing ceremonies will then take place on the 21st of August.

This year’s games are setting a bunch of records with a record number of countries participating in a record number of sports! More than 10,500 athletes will compete for 306 sets of medals in 28 Olympic sports.  First time entrants include Kosovo and South Sudan, and new sports include rugby sevens and gold.  Not only that, but Rio de Janeiro will become the first South American city to host the Summer Olympics!

Each of the Olympic soccer games will be held in one of 7 venues in 6 major cities throughout Brazil:

  • Amazônia Arena in Manaus
  • Corinthians Arena in São Paulo
  • Fonte Nova Arena in Salvador
  • Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasília
  • Maracenã in Rio de Janeiro
  • Mineirão in Belo Horizonte
  • Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro
