Premier League Half Way Highlights & Predictions
As we reach the halfway mark of the 2024-25 Premier League season, the competition has already shown just how strong and unpredictable it can be. From standout performances to surprise victories, the race for the winning title has put our most-loved Premier League clubs to the ultimate test, with underdogs emerging as top contenders. With some clubs showing they’re more than ready to challenge the established order and others struggling to meet expectations, the second half of the season promises even more drama to unfold!
Now that we’re halfway through, fans have seen some unexpected shifts in hierarchy. Many fans are heartbroken to witness the drastic fall of defending champions, Manchester City, while fans of the Reds had the honour of witnessing the thrilling rise of Liverpool throughout this season’s competition so far. In fact, the Reds are now predicted to win the 2024-25 Premier League title based on their current standing at the top. Of course, this latest prediction is not only due to Liverpool’s successful season so far but is also a result of Manchester City’s devastating collapse since the start of November.
Second in the ranks and still going strong is Arsenal, who have started gaining some ground on their rivals, winning their last 3 matches after disappointing draws against Fulham and Everton. However, despite this rise in the competition, the Gunners are still predicted to be no match for Liverpool’s performance in the final matches to come.
The other team that looked to be promising in the race for the winning title, until recently, was Chelsea. After their 2-1 win over Brentford on December 15th, many fans were rooting for them as champions. However, the Blues’ fate was sealed when they went on to play a disappointing period, winning only 1 point across matches against Everton, Fulham and Ipswich, while Liverpool and Arsenal won nine points.
Now that we’ve gone over some top predictions for the second half of the season, and who’s still in the race for the winning title, let’s look back on some of our favourite highlights and standout performances so far!
Tottenham vs. Manchester United
One event in the 2024-25 Premier League competition that fans will remember for years to come was the shocking match between Tottenham and Manchester United on September 29th, 2024. Tottenham, despite missing their star player, Son Heung-min, due to an injury, still managed to dominate on the field winning 3-0 at Old Trafford. The Spurs got off to a strong start, with Brennan Johnson scoring early on, and Manchester United’s hopes of winning were further crushed after Bruno Fernandes was sent off with a red card just before halftime. Stunning goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke sealed the win for Tottenham, marking their fourth victory over Manchester United!
Manchester United vs. Liverpool
Another highlight worth mentioning from the first half of the season is the match between Manchester United and Liverpool on September 1st, 2024. Liverpool started out as fan favourites heading into the highly anticipated match against Manchester United, but how they achieved a 3-0 victory was undeniably shocking to behold. Mistakes from the legendary Casemiro ultimately lead to 2 goals scored for Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah setting up the first. Despite being subbed off at halftime, Manchester United could not recover and Salah sealed the seemingly easy win for the Reds!
Wolves vs. Chelsea
Another unforgettable moment from the 2024-25 Premier League competition was the match between the Wolves and Chelsea on August 25th, 2024. In his first away league game as manager, Enzo Maresca saw Chelsea deliver a thrilling 6-2 win against the Wolves, with Noni Madueke scoring a hat trick. Chelsea took an early lead through Nicolas Jackson and, after a 2-2 draw at halftime, the Wolves couldn’t gain their momentum back in the second half. Madueke and João Félix dominated on the pitch, leading Chelsea to a surprising turnaround victory and marking a significant achievement under Enzo’s leadership!
Everton vs. Brighton
Another stunningly unexpected win from the midway mark of the 2024-25 Premier League so far is the match between Everton and Brighton on August 17th, 2024. Despite being one of the most historical clubs in England, Everton didn’t live up to their dominating status during a home match where they lost 3-0 against Brighton, managed by debutant Fabian Hurzeler. Despite it being Hurzeler’s first match, Brighton played exceptionally, taking the lead through Kaoru and Mitoma. Chaos ensued when a penalty for a foul on Domonic Calvert-Lewin was overturned. Idrissa Gueye’s giveaway allowed Danny Welbeck to score comfortably and, to make things even worse for Everton, Ashley Young was sent off. Simon Adingra added a third goal for Brighton, making the defeat a humiliating and unexpected event for Everton.
Liverpool vs. Nottingham Forest
Finally, the most shocking moment from the Premier League so far, according to fans, was Liverpool’s surprising 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on September 14th, 2024. The Reds started out the match confident, having won their first 3 matches already. Despite their strong effort to dominate possession and create numerous chances, Liverpool was still no match against Nottingham in the end. Their constant frustration from struggling to find the net turned into anger when Callum Hudson-Odoi scored a perfect goal, curling a shot passed Alisson. Nottingham secured their 1-0 victory, marking their first win at Anfield since 1969!
The 2024-25 Premier League season has already been filled with drama, surprise wins, and stunning performances, but we predict the second half will be even more thrilling! As the top teams gear up for the final stretch in the race to the winning title, we can’t wait to see which club will end up on top!
