About the Club
Founded in 1878 under the name of Newton Heath L&YR Football Club, the club was later named Manchester United in 1902. Nicknamed the “Red Devils” because of their distinctive red jerseys and mascot, the team plays in the Old Trafford Stadium, also named “The Theatre of Dreams”, in Manchester, England.
In the early 1900’s the club was off to a strong start having their first English League Title, FA Cup win, and having appointed some of the top managers at the time. Unfortunately, the club was hit with a tragedy in 1958 when an aircraft carrying the team crashed, taking the lives of 23 of the 44 players on board. Rebuilding the club after this incident was difficult but was culminated with a victory in the 1968 European Cup Final and the plays brought to the field by the United Trinity (George Best, Bobby Charlton, & Denis Law). Today, the United Trinity have a statue in their honor outside of Old Trafford stadium.
Today, Manchester United continues to face many ups and downs, but will forever be known as one of the most well-renowned soccer clubs. They continue to grow their legacy through their youth Pre-Academy level which has generated some of the greatest modern-day players. The club has consistent gameplay, amazing comebacks, a strong sense of community, and a fanbase that will continue to grow for years to come.

- Since 1889 Manchester United has won the Premier League title 13 times. With 13 title wins, they hold the record for the most out of all English teams.
- They are the only English team to ever win the Treble. To win the Treble a club must win 3 trophies in a single season.
- During the 1998-1999 season, they became the first English club to win the FA Cup, the Premier League, and UEFA Champions League simultaneously.
- They have been the most successful soccer team in the world to earn money from brand-name products through their clever marketing tactics.
- Manchester United has broken the transfer record in English Football ten times with Bryan Robson, Paul Pogba, Denis Law, and more!
Players and Coaches
Manchester United has signed some of the best players and coaches in English soccer. To name a few, Wayne Rooney, Bobby Charleton, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo, and George Best are among some of the greatest players to wear the United jersey.
From 1986 to 2013 Sir Alex Ferguson managed the club for years of unmatched success. Over the twenty years of Ferguson’s management, the club won 38 trophies with thirteen being Premier League titles. Once Ferguson retired, no other manager has been able to replicate the success that he brought to the club.
In hope to relive the success of the Sir Alex Ferguson era, it was announced in 2016 that Jose Mourinho would be appointed the new manager. Mourinho, at the time, had been managing at the top level of European Football with 25 trophy wins, including two Champions League wins, three Premier League titles, one Europa League, two Serie A, and one La Liga titles.
