It’s no secret that the Reds are one of the most successful clubs in history. They’re famously associated with passion, excitement, and glory and have dominated the league more times than we can count. Over the years, Liverpool FC has been home to countless legendary players who have shaped the club’s identity and the world of soccer as a whole. From the title-winning clubs of the 1980’s to the record-breaking squads of the modern age. Let’s explore some of the most iconic Liverpool players of all time and what made them truly legendary.

Mohamed Salah

Who else is more deserving to start us off than the current superstar of Liverpool FC, Mohamed Salah! Salah has been one of the best Premier League players of the past decade, helping Liverpool claim their first league title in over 20 years. He’s also scored 120 goals in 186 games in the league, further solidifying his status as a Liverpool legend. His ruthlessness is shown through his remarkable goal scoring ability, along with his speed and agility, making him a constant threat on the field. Salah is currently Liverpool's fifth highest goalscorer of all time and he’s expected to go down in history as one of the greatest players of all time. We can’t wait to see him continue to make strides with Liverpool FC.

Graeme Souness

Another legend from Liverpool FC is none other than, Graeme Souness, who’s a winner in every sense of the word. His motivation to win has been apparent throughout his career with the English club and was demonstrated through his intimidation tactics with opponents on the field. This mindset made him a force to be reckoned with and resulted in Souness becoming Liverpool captain. As captain, Graeme led his team to win 5 league titles, 3 European cups, and 4 League Cups. After his experience captaining for Liverpool FC, Souness gained a reputation as being one of the best captains of all time. He eventually went onto manage Liverpool for three years in the early 1990’s.

Robbie Fowler

The next legend on our list needs no introduction. In fact, he has such a cult status at Liverpool FC that the fans nicknamed the English striker ‘God.’ Robbie Fowler is regarded as one of the best young strikers – and rightfully so. He stood out from the rest of the players at the academy due to his unique talent which kickstarted his career into the big leagues. Fowler scored a total of 183 goals for Liverpool with 120 of them taking place in the Premier League. He broke a number of records during his career at Liverpool, one of which being a four-minute treble against Arsenal that would be a Premier League record for years to come. Robbie Fowler will always be considered a Liverpool legend!

Ian Rush

Another player from Liverpool who’ll be remembered for their legendary status is Ian Rush. Rush is the club’s all-time leading goal scorer and has made a whopping 427 league appearances throughout his Liverpool career. He’s made a lasting impact on the team’s success, winning 20 trophies, including 5 League titles and 2 European Cups. He also won the European Golden Boot in 1984, the same year he won the European Cup and BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Rush was given a reputation for being one of the most feared strikers in European soccer. His nickname was widely known as ‘The Ghost’ for his ability to seemingly materialize out of thin air to score a winning goal. Rush attributed 199 goals in the league and 346 goals across all competitions, making him a fan favourite and one of the most beloved Liverpool players to this day!

Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard is commonly referred to as the player who “carried Liverpool on his back for over a decade.” Since joining the team in 1998, Gerrard would go on to spend 17 years with his favourite club and is considered one of the most talented midfielders to ever play the game.  Known around the world as one of the best English players of his generation, Gerrard captained his club to 2 FA Cup victories, 3 League Cups, 1 UEFA Super Cup, and the UEFA Cup. He’s arguably most famous for his role in Liverpool's miraculous 2005 Champions League final comeback against Milan in Istanbul. Fun fact—his success captaining Liverpool better than any other player led to Gerrard having an FA Cup Final named after him!

Kenny Daglish

Last but certainly not least, the most honored legendary player in Liverpool FC history is Kenny Daglish, who’s still considered the greatest Liverpool player of all time due to his successful journey with the club. Nicknamed ‘King Kenny’ by fans for his remarkable talent for scoring goals and taking his team to victory, Daglish had a massive impact on Liverpool’s achievements.
