Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix
When it comes to Formula 1, there’s no race quite as legendary as the Monaco Grand Prix! It’s one of the most iconic and prestigious races in the F1 calendar, and the 2026 edition of the race on Sunday, June 7th, will go down in history as one of the most chaotic! Held on the Circuit de Monaco, a legendary street circuit looping through the public roads of Monte Carlo and La Condamine, the Grand Prix continues to put drivers to the ultimate test. Keep reading for a recap of Sunday!
Kimi Antonelli continued his remarkable Formula 1 season on June 7th by claiming victory in a dramatic Monaco Grand Prix. The 19-year-old Mercedes driver navigated late red flags and multiple interruptions to secure his fifth consecutive win. After a dominant performance around the legendary Circuit de Monaco, Antonelli has extended his championship lead to 66 points!
Starting from pole position, Antonelli immediately took control of the race. His biggest threat, Max Verstappen, disappeared almost instantly when he suffered a power issue at the start and retired after the opening lap. While Lewis Hamilton was unable to match the Mercedes driver's pace throughout the race. The race seemed to be heading toward a predictable finish until the chaos started. Lance Stroll crashed at the final corner, bringing out a safety car. Then Charles Leclerc crashed at the same section of the track before racing had even resumed. Officials then discovered damage to the circuit surface, forcing a red flag and a long break while repairs were done.
When the race finally started up again, Antonelli executed another perfect launch and immediately took back control. Despite the pressure of a second start, Antonelli appeared calm and collected. His win made him the youngest Monaco Grand Prix winner in Formula 1 history! Lewis Hamilton was pleased with second place and praised Antonelli after the race. The seven-time world champion admitted it has been impressive watching the teenager's rise and said he plans to keep fighting in the championship battle.
Behind Antonelli and Hamilton, Isack Hadjar claimed the first podium finish of his Formula 1 career! The Red Bull driver battled engine issues throughout the race and later survived a post-race investigation to keep third place. Oscar Piastri finished fourth for McLaren, while Liam Lawson and rookie Arvid Lindblad delivered a strong double result for Racing Bulls.
With 5 consecutive victories and a 66-point championship lead over Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Antonelli is on his way to becoming the favorite for the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship. While there are still plenty of races coming up, Monaco was another reminder that the younger generations are now setting the pace for the F1 season!
