Champions League Final Recap

Champions League Final Recap

Paris Saint-Germain didn’t just win the 2025 Champions League, they owned it! With a jaw-dropping 5-0 win over Inter Milan on May 31st at Munich’s Allianz Arena, PSG finally claimed the Champions League title that had always seemed just out of reach. This win marks the club's first ever European title in the most one-sided final in the history of the competition. For the fans who have endured years of near-misses and heartbreak, no one really saw this dominating performance coming.

Not even the Paris Saint-Germain president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, could predict such a large margin saying the victory was “like a dream” and that if someone had told him the final would end 5-0, he would have laughed. From the breakout of a 19-year-old rising star to Luis Enrique’s legacy as a manager of champions, Paris Saint Germain has proven that dreams really do come true after a decade of chasing European glory. Keep reading for a recap of the best moments from this long-awaited milestone for PSG that will live on in Champions League history forever!

Record-Breaking Final Margin

The 5-0 victory set a new record for the largest winning margin in a Champions League final, beating previous records and highlighting Paris Saint-Germain's dominance on the European stage. From the opening minutes, PSG were a force to be reckoned with and Inter, quite frankly, didn’t stand a chance. Former Inter player Achraf Hakimi opened the scoring, but it was the 19-year-old French forward Désiré Doué who stole the show. Along with outstanding performances by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, substitute Senny Mayulu and Luis Enrique orchestrating it all from the sidelines, the team proved once and for all they’re not just contenders, they’re champions!

Désiré Doué’s Breakout Performance

While the majority of headlines are praising Paris Saint-Germain on their historical win at the Champions League final, the real story of the night, and maybe the entire tournament as a whole, is 19-year-old Désiré Doué. The rising star delivered a standout performance, scoring two goals and having a huge impact on the final outcome. He was involved in the first goal with a brilliant run and assist, scored PSG’s second with a deflected finish, and then followed it up with a stunning solo goal after the break that sealed the game and put Inter away. His movement, composure and fearlessness as a teenage midfielder has marked him as one of Europe’s top emerging talents.

This final may go down in history as a legendary moment for PSG, but for Doué, it was the moment that earned him worldwide recognition as a player. He may have been generally unknown outside of France at the beginning of the season, but after this there’s no denying that the whole world knows his name. For young stars like Désiré Doué who represent a talented generation of players, it's clear that the new era for Paris Saint-Germain is a bright one!

Luis Enrique: Manager of Champions

The monumental victory for Paris Saint-Germain wouldn’t have been possible without the mastermind behind it all, Luis Enrique! He’s now the seventh manager to win the Champions League with two different clubs, having first done so with Barcelona in 2015. As a manager for a club like PSG, who has unwavering ambition and a squad trying to make history, there must have been a lot of pressure going into the Champions League final. His game plan was clear: start fast, strike early, and suffocate the opposition, and they did exactly that. Paris Saint-Germain scored in the opening minutes, and their early lead made it impossible for Inter Milan to catch up.

An elite group of managers have won this trophy with two different clubs, including Carlo Ancelotti, Ernst Happel, Ottmar Hitzfeld, Jupp Heynckes, Jose Mourinho, and Pep Guardiola. But Luis Enrique joins the legendary Pep Guardiola as the only two managers to have won European trebles on two different occasions. After the match, Enrique called it a “masterpiece”, and we’d have to agree!
