It was a tale of comebacks in the semifinal matches of the men's soccer tournament featuring Spain, Morocco, France, and Egypt. Spain, whose full national team triumphed this summer at Euro 2024, is looking to continue their success streak with their win against Morocco. The powerhouse team showed resiliency in its 2-1 comeback win with thrilling goals scored by Fermin Lopez and Juanlu Sanchez. Spain did an excellent job of limiting Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi from having an impact, and as a result, the Europeans will play in the gold medal match this week.

Host nation France has also made their mark on this year’s 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Starting out as a pre-tournament favourite and having national team legend Thierry Henry as their head coach, France has seemingly cruised through all of the games in the men’s tournament so far. However, after their semifinal’s comeback with a 3-1 win in extra time, this may be the necessary wakeup call France needs to motivate them heading into the final match against Spain for the gold medal! France has a history of success when it comes to competing in the Olympic soccer tournament. The French even won gold at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in a 2-0 win against Brazil. We’re thrilled to be cheering them on again at the 2024 Paris Olympic finals!

Final Women’s Teams: Brazil vs USA

This year’s 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games is coming to an end for women’s soccer, and we can’t wait to see the final teams vying for glory at the Parc des Princes in Paris! The tournament has been packed with excitement for the women this year, including last minute comebacks, a drone scandal (Canada, eh?), and a flood of goals! We expect the same level of excitement is in store for the final match between Brazil and USA on Saturday, August 10^th.  

The United States women’s national team defeated Germany, 1-0, in the semifinals to advance to the gold medal match. The journey for USWNST in this year’s tournament has demonstrated how far the team has come. Exactly one year ago, the women’s team was at their lowest point in history, after being knocked out of the World Cup in the quarterfinals in what was the team’s earliest exit ever at a major international tournament. One thing soccer fans didn’t expect from this year’s Games was a new favourite trio, nicknamed “the best American trio since Destiny’s Child.” Sophia Smith, who scored the winning goal in the semifinal against Germany, along with Mallory Swanson and Trinity Rodman have found themselves a worldwide fanbase as they dominate for Team USA. Together, the trio has scored 9 of 11 goals for the U.S. at the Olympic tournament. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for them at the finals!

Also going for the gold medal at this week’s final match is the Brazil women’s national team, after beating world champion Spain 4-2 on Tuesday. This victory in the semifinals is a ‘dream come true’ for the team and gives soccer legend Marta the chance to end her dazzling international career by competing for gold at her sixth Olympics and last major tournament with the national team. Despite the exhilarating win for Team Brazil leading up to the finals, fans are still hesitant to think they’ll stand a chance against Team USA. Brazil has been twice beaten in an Olympic final by the U.S. — at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. However, with their greatest player, Marta, no longer red-carded we cannot wait to see Brazil compete for Olympic glory this Saturday!

Final Venue

The 2024 Paris Olympics Soccer Finals will be held at the Parc des Princes, an iconic venue in French sporting history known for its vibrant atmosphere and unique architecture. Located in the City of Light’s 16^th district, Parc des Princes was built in 1972 and designed by architect Roger Taillibert with distinct concrete columns that crown its roof. The iconic stadium is home to Paris Saint Germain, and is built to host grand events with up to 47,929 fans in the stands. Aside from the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics event, the Parc des Princes has staged major international competitions, including the 1998 Football World Cup and the Euro 2016 Football Championship.
